India offers significant incentives, formalizes new semiconductor policy

New Delhi: December 22,2021: The Indian government  has notified the semiconductor policy which was cleared by the Cabinet last week.
According to the gazette notification, the government will provide up to 50% of Project cost for two semiconductor and two display fabs in the country. The Application window starts January 1 and will be open for 45 days.
For additional support, the government will offer infrastructure support through “Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) Scheme for development of infrastructure / Common Facility Centre subject to the proposal satisfying the EMC 2.0 framework requirements."
The semiconductor fabs set up in India will be supported through purchase preference in procurement of electronic products by the Government under the Public Procurement (Preference to Make in India) Order 2017.
