Technology & the evolving World of Work
July 27 2020:Here is a summary of the key India-specific findings of the Lenovo Global Research Survey on Work-from-home trends.

  • 84% Indians think they could do their job better if they had better technology skills
  • a majority of Indians (81%) think that technology helps them manage all the things  so they can better concentrate on their job
  • When asked about the most essential / must-have tech that they use at work -:
    • 87% respondents feel that laptops are an essential commodity
    • 58% respondents also deemed voice or video conferencing technology as another essential item
  • When it comes to using laptops for work, battery life tops the list of challenges with 43% respondents pointing it out
  • When asked their concern about protecting their personal data on their work devices (laptops, mobile phones), Indian respondents were found to be the most concerned (82%), as compared to the other 9 countries

WORKING FROM HOME, DURING COVID-19

  • 81% Indian respondents are now working from home 100% of the time due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • When compared to the other 9 countries, Indian professionals’ personal expenditure is amongst the lowest (INR 13,934) approx). This is when we talk about upgrading, improving, or buying new technology (devices, equipment, software) to help them work from home during COVID-19
  • 95% Indians agree that they feel they have become their own IT person, since working from home due to COVID-19
  • 70% feel it is more important to have separate devices (personal computers, phones, etc.) for work and their personal life
    • While working from home, remotely, due to COVID-19 pandemic, 91% Indians agree that they have increased their usage of laptops
  • Thinking towards the future, when we are able to return to our normal work locations, 74% Indian respondents think they will prefer work from home much more compared to before COVID-19
  • 94% Indian respondents believe 5G will have a positive impact, while 92% believe AI and Machine Learning will have a positive impact on their job / experience at work over the next few years
