The mobile and the Internet has come to the rescue of Indian rail travelers, who for decades have endured bad food service at stations and on the train from government-run monopolies..
Half a dozen enterprising outfits, countrywide have stepped in to provide hot, clean meals and snacks at railway stations -- based on the passenger's choice and online booking. All it takes is prior booking at their website, with your name, train and PNR number -- and where you want the food delivered. They do the rest... networking with restaurants and hotels all over India to serve you from the nearest one. The menus are extensive and cover all tastes -- veg, non veg, jain, western, diabetic... the meal is brought to your seat. Typical cost of a mini meal is Rs 100.
