Bangalore, November30, 2012: The 3-day  India edition of SAP labs’ annual  conference  -- TechEd –  which concluded here today, was bigger than ever before,  with standing room only for most of the sessions and the exhibition floor so packed, one had to perform dexterous elbow work to even get near some of the popular stands like the one showcasing HANA, the ‘real, realtime’ environment being heavily promoted by the Germany-based  leader in enterprise application solutions.

Over 6300  of India’s best and brightest techies   cheerfully put up with  logistic hassles and never- ending queues to attend  some   200  technology sessions  and 450 hours of demos and  knowledge sessions  on  technologies like SAP NetWeaver, analytics, and mobile platforms.

The event was preceded by  SAP’s first anywhere TechniVarsity event,  a students-only day long expo at the same venue, where over 5000 engineering students  from 76 colleges across India,  were hosted and briefed on  SAP technologies.

The technical events  opened with an hour long  demo session  rather than a formal keynote presentation, with SAP Labs India’s new Managing Director designate Andy Dey acting as master of ceremonies. ( see separate story )    and  CTO Vishal Sikka   giving an overview by video link from Palo Alto. HANA is key to SAP’s  aggressive thrust into real time computing platforms which provide  customers the abiliity to  build personalized customer experiences.   Details   The  opening  demo session  conducted by  Bjorn Goerke,  Executive Vice President  in charge of Technology and Platform Core and  Sam Yen who heads  SAP’s user experience development respectively,  underlined the company’s trishul or trident of mantras:  better design of user experience;  richer developer experience and  real time platforms for tomorrow’s open systems. The Bangalore SAP Labs’-built application for the Boston-based Sentinel Investments  was a powerful illustration of HANA-fuelled  real time mining of data.

To drive home  the strong end-user  advantage, SAP  also showcased   consumer apps for the Apple iOS platform like Fan App ( a sports  tool) and  ,  A mobile app designed for fashionistas in China. It  and Recalls Plus  A mobile and Web app that enables parents   to track recalls on  childrens items.

New SAP launches  almost simultaneous with the TechEd event include  HANA Cloud Portal, HANA on Amazon Cloud server and SAP NetWeaver Cloud,  the last, a platform as a service offering.  Also available now are cloud editions of   SAP mobile platforms, launching into a new era of mobile-as-a-service ( for iOS and Android).
