Indian-origin technocrats now in leadership positions at Cognizant and VMware

June 18 2021: Even as  Microsoft's Satya Nadella, takes on added responsibility  as  Chairman in addition to his current  post  as CEO,  other American Indians take on leadership positions in the US-based  technology industry.
The latest is Rajesh Nambiar,  who was chairman and managing director Cognizant India and  will replace Malcolm Frank, executive vice president and president, Digital Business and Technology.
Most recently he led  the company’s Operation C3 (Cognizant Combats COVID-19)
Prior to joining Cognizant in November 2020, Rajesh served as Chairman and President of Ciena India, a leading network solutions partner. He joined Ciena from IBM, where he led an $8 billion Application Services practice. He also served as IBM Global Delivery Leader and led a team of 90,000 through the company’s next generation of globally integrated delivery capability. Before IBM, Rajesh spent over 18 years at Tata Consultancy Services as a Regional Head in the eastern United States.
Rajesh serves on the Executive Council of NASSCOM, the premier trade association of Indian IT and BPO companies. He chairs the Cognizant Foundations in the US and India. He is a member of the global board of U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC).
Rajesh holds a master’s degree in Statistics from the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata and is a graduate of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Programme.
New CEO at VMware
Last month, enterprise software major VMware announced the appointment of Raghu Raghuram as its new CEO and member of the Board of Directors, effective  June 1, replacing Pat Gelsinger who moved back to his old company Intel, as CEO
During his tenure at VMware, Raghuram has held multiple leadership roles, most recently Chief Operating Officer, Products and Cloud Services, where he had responsibility for all of VMware’s product and service offerings and centralized services, support and operational functions. 
Prior to that he led the company’s software-defined data centre business as the executive vice president and general manager, where he was responsible for the division’s strategy, business and product planning and engineering execution. Before that , he led the company’s cloud infrastructure and management business as the general manager, and led worldwide product marketing, product management and business planning for the company, and served as part of the leadership team that took the company through its initial IPO. Raghuram began his career at VMware running product management for ESX and vSphere.
Prior to VMware, Raghuram held product management and marketing roles at AOL, Bang Networks and Netscape. Raghuram holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai.

This comes at a critical time at VMware – as Dell Technologies  is spin out VMware , having acquired VMware as part of the $58 billion EMC acquisition in 2015.  
VMware  has also appointed Sumit Dhawan as president to  lead worldwide sales, worldwide partner and commercial organization, customer experience, marketing, and communications.
Another Indian American Thomas Kurian, former Oracle president of product development is now leading Google Cloud since January 2019
In April 2020, Arvind Krishna was  appointed CEO of the world's oldest technology company IBM.
