Kerala launches online tax payment window; will benefit non resident owners

An online window for payments like property tax to local government bodies in Kerala was launched earlier this week in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram.
Called Sanchaya, the service was launched by Mayor K. Chandrika on the sidelines of a media workshop hosted by Information Kerala Mission, the entity that developed the application.
The service is expected to be of particular use to the large diaspora  of non resident Keralites abroad, who own real estate in their home state.
Payment can be made online by credit cards such as MasterCard, Visa and American Express; debit cards such as State Bank of India and Union Bank of India; Net banking facilities of over thirty (30) banks including State Banks of India and its 6 Associate Banks (including State Bank of Travancore), Union Bank of India, Federal Bank, Corporation Bank, IDBI Bank, etc. More banks and Debit cards would be added soon, explained IKM Chairman  Prof M K Prasad.

More local governments such as Guruvayoor Municipality are ready to be added IKM officials said 
Users can also register for email and SMS alerts on the website of the Local Self Government Department. The URL http://tax.lsgkerala.gov.in .
The facility was created by IKM utilising the facilities of  the state's eGovernance Data Centre and the e-payment gateway of M/s. BillDesk (Indiaideas.com). Feb 25 2011
