India Mobile Congress Coverage -- 4
New Delhi, October 18 2019: Multiple partnerships were announced at the just concluded India Mobile Congress 2019 here -- most of them in the realm of 5G.
Nokia and Wipro
Nokia has announced that it is partnering with Wipro Limited to jointly develop 5G use cases at its Bangalore R&D centere in order to help operators maximize their investments in 5G. The collaboration will explore technical and operational feasibility of use cases, such as AR/VR-based immersive learning experience, as well as drone-based applications for agriculture, public safety energy and utilities, using real-time network analytics, lifecycle operation management and edge computing.
As part of the partnership, Nokia will provide a live 5G end-to-end system, including radio, core and devices in its lab, its NFVI-based secured edge cloud for low-latency use cases, and IoT Impact platform based device management to host and manage the lifecycle to support 5G use cases in different industry verticals. Wipro will integrate its application solutions for 5G use cases that include software solutions and user devices along with key system integration and delivery capabilities.
Nokia and Wipro have already conducted lab tests of two use cases – drone-based transmission line monitoring within the utilities domain and in immersive entertainment experiences 5G for large scale events, such as sports championships, aimed at enhancing the user experience. These use cases will be further developed and validated, along with other new use cases that can be rapidly executed for field trials for mass adoption, once 5G spectrum is available. The Indian Government plans to conduct 5G spectrum auctions by the end of this year. Web page: Nokia 5G
Several enterprise use cases, tested by Wipro in a live 5G network at Nokia’s Bangaore lab, were showcased at India Mobile Congress 2019.
Ericsson & Qualcomm
Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies, completed the first ever live 5G video call in India using 28 GHz spectrum. The call was made at te India Mobile Congress 2019. The demonstration was done using a smartphone based on the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with Snapdragon X50 5G Modem-RF System and Ericsson’s 5G platform including 5G NR radio, RAN Compute products and 5G Evolved Packet Core, set up at the IMC venue at Aerocity. The achievement is a significant milestone in the country as India gets ready for 5G.
MillimeterWave (mmWave) 5G networks are commercial in North America and being rolled out in many advanced countries including Japan and Korea, where 28 GHz and 39 GHz spectrum bands are being considered for 5G deployments. For mobile networks, mmWave spectrum will be an important capacity layer for both 4G and 5G.
As part of the demonstration, Nunzio Mirtillo Head of Ericsson South East Asia, Oceania and India, made a video call at the Ericsson booth to Rajen Vagadia , Vice President , Qualcomm India Private Limited on site at IMC 2019. The companies have already worked closely to create several 5G technology milestones. Ericsson was the first telecom vendor to demonstrate 5G technology in India in 2017.
Jio and Samsung
Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (Jio) and Samsung Electronics present real-world use cases powered by next generation technology at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2019. IMC is the largest annual event for digital technology across India and South Asia, being held from 14 to 16 October in New Delhi, India.
In partnership with Samsung Networks, Jio has built the world’s largest green-field and all IP based 4G LTE network, which supports over 340 million LTE subscribers as of August 2019.
At the event, the two companies present new business opportunities using 5G NSA mode, with advanced 4G LTE and 5G technology used in combination as a dual-connected mode network. These will demonstrate how innovations from the latest technology can benefit consumers, enterprises and the society.
Huawei & Vodafone Idea
Huawei, announced the first in India deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based Massive MIMO optimization technology in the Vodafone Idea network. This announcement was made at the inaugural session of the India Mobile Congress 2019.
AI enabled Massive MIMO enables Vodafone Idea to add automation capabilities to its network, greatly improving optimization efficiency, boosting cell capacity and enhancing end-user experience of the network.
Massive MIMO leverages 5G technologies in 4G network. The Massive MIMO AI solution uses random forest algorithm for modelling and prediction, collecting and analyzing data to optimize MIMO performance.
Vodafone Idea has been consistently unlocking spectrum efficiencies and user experiences by applying a number of 5G ready technologies like Massive MIMO and “CloudAIR” Dynamic Sharing of Spectrum in 4G network. Today the Vodafone Idea network has India’s largest and world’s third largest Massive MIMO deployment.
