Xiaomi launches smart TV manufacture in India at the Dixon Technologies plant in Tirupati

 Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, October 8 2018. The temple town of Tirupati now has a new claim to fame as a burgeoning  hardware manufacturing  hub.  Last week  Xiaomi, India’s number 1 smartphone brand launched local manufacturing of Mi LED TVs at Tirupati, harnessing the manufacturing facility of  Dixon Technologies, India’s largest  contract maker of TVs.
The Dixon campus in Turupati spans 32 acres,  2 kms from the  International Airport and now employs more than 850 people. The factory will   is geared to roll out 100,000 Mi LED TVs per month by  early 2019. For starters  the plant will assemble Mi LED Smart TV 4A 80cm (32”) and Mi LED Smart TV 4A 180cm (43”)  sets.  This comes at a time when  Mi LED TV has become the number 1 Smart TV Brand in India  according to IDC’s r Worldwide Quarterly Smart Home Device Tracker,  for the 2nd quarter of 2018.
Speaking soon after  he inaugurated the new TV plant on October 4, Andhra Pradesh  Chief Minister  N Chandrababu Naidu said:  “I have a vision of making Tirupati an IT Hub offering a one-stop solution for leading electronics players encompassing the entire life cycle of and ecosystem in electronics from design to death.  I am delighted to welcome Xiaomi, the undisputed leader of Smart TVs in India along with Dixon Technologies to the  holy city of Tirupati and to the family of other leading electronics players in the state who will all together help showcase Andhra Pradesh to the world as an example of transparent governance and seamless execution in setting up of projects.”

Xiaomi nnounced in 2015 that it was going to manufacture its smartphones locally in India. Today, Xiaomi has 6 smartphone manufacturing plants in India in partnership with Foxconn and Hipad Technologies across Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu and Noida, Uttar Pradesh and its first powerbank plant (in partnership with Hipad Technologies). Currently, over 95% of Xiaomi smartphones sold in India are made in India.
Dixon  has 8 manufacturing units spread across 3 states and employes 6000 persons. Clients besides  Xiaomi include  Sanyo, TCL, Panasonic, Haier and others  and  the range of products includes TVs, security cameras, Digital Video Recorders ( all three in Tirupati) besides mobile phones, washing machines and lighting fixtures and bulbs,
