Bangalore, November 24th 2015: With film actor, model and latterly champion long distance runner Milind Soman to create a physical metaphor for the product's USP, China-based global mobile handset leader Gionee launched a phone in India today, with arguably the biggest battery capacity on offer: The 6020 mAh-capable Marathon M5.
This translates to 62 hours of call time, or 12 hours of image-intense non-stop gaming or the ability to watch 11 movies back to back.
Faster charging -- 10 minutes typically or 30 minutres s for a full day's use -- is made possible by deploying two charging chips and sharing the work between them. Gionee's India Country Manager and MD Arvind Vohra explained that clever power management made the battery capacity an effective 8000 mAh--- it could run for four days under normal conditions between recharges, two days under extreme use conditions -- a message which he and the others on stage at the launch underlines by throwing away their chargers.
Power-ful specs aside the M5 sports an1.3GHz Quad Core 64 bit processor, a 5.5 inch AMOLED screen rather than IPS for less power demand; a 13MP rear camera with LED flashand front facing 5MP camera; 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage expandable to 128 GB; dual 4G SIM slots and the ability to work with both GSM/LTE and CDMA networks.
The handset is available exclusively on Flipkart, staring today for Rs 17,999.
