India have just released their compilation of the top key words searched during 2008 -- and a hard nosed utility site like Indian Railways (for booking tickets, checking schedules) takes top position, beating leading heart throb, Deepika Padukone to second position. The film star-model out votes Shilpa Shetty, Aishwarya Rai and Kareena Kapoor, who are in rank 4, 6 and 7 respectively. But Katrina Kaif is top of the entertainment search pops for India's mobile phone seekers after information -- sweet revenge for one who is the darling of Google's India searchers, tabulated a couple of weeks ago (see our December story in this section) Cricket once thought to be the ruling Indian passion is ranked only number 8, with Sachin Tendulkar follows at no. 9. Earthy concerns push topics like the Sixth Pay Commission (for Central government employees) to the third most popular search topic in 2008. Yahoo! has also provided subject rankings for India -- the top movie title searched is "Singh is Kinng", followed by Tamil block buster "Dasavatharam" and another Tamil film, "Kuselan". Two Hollywood movies bring up the rear in the top ten -- "The Dark Knight" and "Sex and The City " (The movie). Another popular search was the iPhone India launch, among news items while Google was the top among online sites searched, followed by Rediffmail. Readers of this space might remember that Yahoo and Rediff also figured high among Google India searches in 2008 -- which just shows, people prefer one search engine -- be it Yahoo,Google, Rediff or what ever -- and use it to reach all or most of their search targets.
