Global IT services company Virtusa Corporation has joined hands with the Jeppiaar Educational Trust’s Sathyabama University in Chennai for setting up a Rich Internet Application (RIA) and Mobile Apps Development Lab at the univesity. This will enrich the technical expertise of students studying in various engineering disciplines and especially in the field of Information Technology.
The MOU, signed this week spells out the scope of the collaboration which includes Creating a knowledge pool for students through the establioshment of an RIA/ mobile apps lab; Faculty Orientation where Virtusa will impart training to faculty members of Sathyabama University, while also sharing industry-oriented courseware and technical knowledge and University Orientation, where Virtusa will work closely with the education bodies/Universities to align the college curriculum with industry requirements. Students will be also encouraged to visit the Virtusa campus for final year project execution.
Roger Keith Modder, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Virtusa, said, “A strong Industry-academia collaboration would provide the right platform for innovation and growth. Through our Campus Reach Initiative, we are committed to enhancing the students’ skills in modern technologies and also helping them improve their employability in this innovation-driven global economy.”
Dr. Jeppiaar, Chancellor of Sathyabama University, said, “The MOU with Virtusa has opened up a new chapter in the history of Sathyabama University for greater industry-academia partnership in enhancing the technical skills of the students. This will also equip the candidates with the requisite skills in employability and widens the scope of placement.”

Founded in 1996 by Sri Lanka-bom  Kris Canekeratne and headquartered in Massachusetts, USA, Virtusa has operations in North America, Europe and Asia, with strong bases in India and Sri Lanka. The company opened a new campus in Nanakramguda, Hyderabad in September 2010.
