January 2013: The Mumbai-based consumer electronics developer, Wicked Leak has shortened the gap that separates tablets and phones. As tablets become smaller than 7 inches, the company has launched an Android Smartphone -- Wammy Titan-- with one of the largest screens to be seen in India – a 5.5 inches QHD* inch touch screen display (960 * 540 pixels).
The Smartphone runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor, comes with 1 GB of RAM expandable to 32 GB with a microSD card. Connectivity-wise it has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3G ( the Titan is a dual SIM GSM WCDMA phone).
The 2,500 mAh battery promises 8 hours of talk time. Other features include GPS ( voice navigation), Analog TV and FM radio. It is a smart phone in a form factor that will increasingly be seen as a crossover product enticing those who have not yet decided between a small tablet and a smart phone which can do everything a tablet does—almost – while still fitting in one’s pocket or purse. www.wickedleak.org
Tech Note: QHD is a recent display format with a resolution of 960x540 pixels arranged in a 16:9 aspect ratio which makes the resolution one quarter of a full HD 1080p frame and three quarters of a 720p frame.
