IT industry dominates India's  best-workplace rankings

Bangalore, July 26 2012 : A study of the best companies to work for in India during 2011 is dominated by IT and international companies – with no government –run business in the top 20 except the National Thermal Power Corporation.

Interestingly purely Indian Internet companies like MakeMyTrip attain a high ranking – which shows that good employee –employer relations is achievable without the backing of global big money. Large Indian IT players like NIIT and HCL too have created a name for themselves with their HR practices. But the absence of the biggest Indian earners the so called bell wether companies like TCS and Infosys are not be seen in the top slot.
Key findings :
"India's Best Companies to Work for" Study  is conducted by The Economic Times and Great Place to Work Institute, India ). Around 600 organisations registered for this year's study, about a hundred more than last year. The study conducted in India is based on the same model and methodology that is followed in carrying out similar studies elsewhere, including the US and the Europe where the results are published in the Fortune Magazine and The Financial Times, respectively
Overall employee perception of their workplace culture has not changed significantly from 2011. This is true for all companies, the Top 50, and Top 25 best workplaces in our Study. Thus, while individual companies may have done well or poorly in building trust with their employees, the workplace culture in India Inc., as perceived by their people, remains the same. The study reveals that 75% of employees are below 35 years of age. While they are the majority in most organisations, their views about the workplace culture are significantly less positive than employees over 45 years in age. Only 20% of employees, on an average, have worked in the same organisation for more than five years.
