More to Solan than tomatoes and mushrooms: Now it boasts a global  BPO!

Solan (Himachal Pradesh), December 30 2011: Global outsourcers are now coming to India’s second and third tier towns: Solan, nestling in the Himalayan slopes on the route from Chandigarh to Shimla, will see its first multi-national IT services operation: BPO player Xchanging has inaugurated a state-of-the-art processing centre in the Himachal Pradesh town.

C. Paulrasu, District Commissioner, Solan, Prof. P.K. Khosla, Vice Chancellor, Shoolni University and Nimish Soni, Executive Director, Xchanging’s Offshore Services,Asia, were present at the inaugural ceremony on December 29.
The centre, spread over an area of 5000 sq ft, will also support Xchanging’s vision to create a low carbon environment. The operations will begin with a capacity of 50 people, with an option to scale to a 200 seat centre by the end of 2012. As a global delivery centre, the new site is connected to all the other centres of Xchanging and will have capability in business processing, procurement, and ITO services including software development and testing. Xchanging has collaborated with academia in the region to recruit and provide industrial and soft skills training to young employable talent. The company has also announced that every year it will award local college and university students for academic excellence.
"India is a very attractive local market and a critical offshore destination for Xchanging," says Nimish Soni, "As we continue to invest and expand through added presence in smaller towns of the country, the opening of the centre in Solan will provide us with improved business continuity, access to untapped semi-urban talent and advantages of typically low attrition”.
Solan is Xchanging's second processing centre in a tier-3 town of India after Shimoga in Karnataka. Xchanging employs over 3,400 people in India and has three of its top ten global processing hubs in Bangalore, Gurgaon and Chennai. The Uk headquartered company came to India in the year 2003.
