Swiggy, Zomato  start  trials to deliver food via drone

New Delhi, July 14 2021: Swiggy may be among the first food delivery and hyper local delivery  apps to harness drones, but not the last.
Dunzo and Zomato have also been according approval by the Ministry of Civil Aviation to  use drones to make their deliveries .
Swiggy is known to have partnered with Noida-based software company ANRA Technologies to  start trial deliveries very soon.
ANRA  on its part, has reportedly received the final clearances from Director General Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation to start Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone deliveries in the country. ANRA will start drone deliveries in Etah and Rupnagar districts using its proprietary SmartSkies technology. ANRA has also partnered with the Indian Institute of Technologies, Ropar to commence drone deliveries of medical packages.  The company launched its first sortie in India on June 16.

“Food delivery by drones is no longer just a pipe dream. It’s almost here”, says Zomato  Founder-CEO Deepinder Goyal .Their  drone carries a payload of 5 kg covers 5 kms in 10 minutes,  and has a peak speed of 80 kmph.  Zomato hopes to deliver food to customer in less than 15 minutes.“Fifteen minutes is only possible if we take the aerial route. The roads are not efficient for very fast delivery,”  Goyal adds.  The company  has opted to have its own drone arm and  acquired local drone startup TechEagle in 2018.
