Finland-based IT services company Tieto has grown its Indian footprint: Last week it announced the opening of a new delivery centre in Bangalore – its second after Pune. While the new location will concentrate on telecom and media business, it will complement the Pune operation, grow Tieto’s total strength to over 1200 ( 200 in Bangalore) – and clear the roadmap for a four fold growth to over 4000 by 1012.

“The current site set-up gives us clear benefits – we can combine customer closeness in Bangalore with a large IT project service support in Pune. At the same time, we get additional benefits in the form of cost efficiency and scalability”, says Country Manager Rajat Chauhan, “The Indian market sees good growth opportunities for example/especially in the Automotive, Telecom, Banking and Healthcare sectors and we are well positioned to cater to this demand”.

The Pune centre has the distinction of being first unit in Tieto that has achieved CMMI L3 accreditation. Tieto is one of the few companies to have achieved this with all the projects following the “Agile” methodology of software development.

Headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, Tieto numbers leading players in telecom ( Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia, Telenor), financial services ( RBS, P&O Insurance) automotive ( BMW, Ford Mercedes Benz, Boisch) and energy ( Chevron, Texaco, ExxonMobil, Shell) among its clients.

Hitherto its India operations have tended to service these international clients – many of whom are already present in this country. But the company is now turning its attention to India-based businesses, Chauhan told IndiaTechOnline in a special briefing last week.
