HP enters gaming PC arena

Bangalore, March 2 2017: Seize the opportunity when timing is right’ seems to be something that computers and peripherals manufacturer, HP understands very well. At the time when the Indian online gaming segment is seeing a boom, the company announced the debut of its gaming PCs and accessories range, Omen by HP.
The portfolio includes two notebook models, OMEN 15 and 17, and one desktop model. The company has partnered with gaming peripherals manufacturer Steel Series for accessories that includes a headset, keyboard, mouse, and mousepad.
According to the market analysts, online gaming in India is growing at a rapid pace with 14% annual growth in the next five years. The advent of high speeds and higher Internet penetration has contributed majorly. At the launch event held in Mumbai, Ketan Patel, Sr. Director, Personal Systems, HP India said: “Fifty percent of the Indian population is millennial -- young age group of 20 to 35 years old. With majority of young people in the country, gaming is going to be a growing market.”
While most of the growth is happening around the smartphone platform, Ketan points out that mobile gaming is helping in the conversion of a casual gamer into a hardcore gamer, who eventually would need a large device with high standard performance, quality processors, graphic cards, and good storage.
With Virtual Reality being one of the most popular technologies in the gaming space, HP has included a VR-ready model in its range; the Omen 17. The 17.3 inch screen with WLED UWVA IPS display and 1,920 x 1,080 resolution laptop features 8GB NVIDIA 1070 GeForce GTX graphic card and 7th gen Intel quad-core i7 processor. It includes 1TB Hard Disk and 256GB SSD storage. Even though the device would offer support for HTC Vive VR gear, HP is not planning to partner with the brand and bundle it with the system.
The other laptop is Omen 15, which comes with a 15.6-inch screen and WLED-backlit IPS display with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution. It has 4GB NVIDIA 1050 GeForce GTX graphic card and 7th gen Intel quad-core i7 processor. The storage options include 1TB Hard Disk and 128GB SSD.
Both the models offer Bang & Olufsen Audio with dual speakers.|
The Omen desktop sports a 3GB Nvidia 1060 GeForce GTX graphics card and a 7th Gen Intel quad-core i7-7700HP processor. It offers 2TB Hard Disk and 128GB SSD storage. It features a liquid cooling with advanced head management.

The Omen 15 is priced at Rs. 79,990. Both, the Omen 17 and the desktop are priced at Rs 1,39,990. The pricing for accessories includes keyboard for Rs. 9,999, headset for Rs. 7,499, mouse for Rs.5,499 and mouse pad for Rs. 2,199.
When quizzed about price range being on the higher side, Ketan said that price is never a barrier for people who are looking for quality. When further asked about the low PC penetration and how is it going to affect them, he added, “We believe that the recent demonetization and digitization move in our country will certainly lead to the growth for PC market.”
The Omen series by HP will be available from March 15, across retail, e-commerce and HP stores.
