Hyderabad to host India' s largest public WiFi network

Hyderabad,  Jun 22 2017:  The Telangana state capital is poised to host the nation's  biggest public  WIFi network.  Earlier this week, the state government  launched  Hy-Fi, the ‘Hyderabad City Wi-Fi Project’,  which will  blanket the city with 1000 hotspots for starters -- and eventually 3000.
The project has its origins in the June 2015,  ‘Digital Telangana’  pilot  programme whichsaw the government partner with ISPs to provide free Wi-Fi for 30 minutes at approximately 100 public category locations across Hyderabad. These locations included malls, tourist spots, public offices, police stations, government schools and colleges.
Now over 1000 hotspots are being installed with an assured bandwidth of 5-10 Mbps offering 30 minutes of free Wi-Fi. The remaining 2,000 places will be covered in next three
Inaugurated by Bonthu Rammohan,  the Mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation,  the launch ceremony was attended by many senior state government officials including Jayesh Ranjan , Principal Secretary, ITE&C Department and  B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.
The Cellular Operators Association of India , apex industry association of telecom services providers, mobile and internet companies, is the technical advisor to the Government of Telangana in this project. Other  partners who will join to  deliver the project are Bharti Airtel and Indus Towers.Bangalore-based Atria Convergence Technologies, has been selected for bridging the last mile gap in the project
