Facebook launches lite version in India for slower connections, entry level Android phones

Bangalore, June 30 2015: Facebook brings  its lighter version  Facebook Lite to India  this week --tailored to work on  entry level Android devices fueled by  slower  2G networks.
It takes up just 435 KB of storage compared to  30 MB for  the full version. It includes Facebook’s core experiences like News Feed, status updates, photos, notifications and more -- but  no videos. Helming  the lite  rollout is Facebook Product Manager   Vijay Shankar  who has earlier led product efforts for several initiatives at FB that include: App Links, FbStart, Mobile SDKs, and Mobile App Ads.
Facebook  has more than 125 million users in India. "Over 875 million people in the world access the Internet through 2G and we wanted to create a good user experience for these users to enable better access in emerging markets," Shankar told TechinAsia.  Facebook is simultabneously launching the lite version in Philippines this week.
