Karnataka state to unveil its policy for Animation & Gaming industry

Promised over a year ago, Karnataka is now slated to announce its policy for the animation and gaming industry, on the sidelines of its flagship event for Information Technology, Bangalore IT.Biz, scheduled to take place between October 18 and 20 this year.

Leading industry watcher Animation Xpress reports in its latest newsletter, that the state government is currently in the process of collecting inputs from the AnimationIndustry and in particular from the Association of Bangalore Animation Industries (ABAI). The report quotes M. N. Vidyashankar, Principal Secretary, e-Governance Department & Principal Secretary  in charge of IT, BT and S&T in Karnataka:

 "The State Government realizes the growing importance of Animation and Gaming all over. The Indian Animation Industry is growing at a CAGR of about 22% compared to the global Animation market growing at 10%. Bangalore is the Tech-Capital and is the largest hub for Animation and Gaming. It is necessary to further promote the Tech-based industry. A separate Policy for the Animation, Gaming and Visual Effects Industry is under consideration of the Karnataka State Government".
