Out of the blue, Bharti Airtel and Aircel made simultaneous and identical announcements on Monday that they will “launch Apple’s iPhone 4 in India in the coming months”. 

Both add that the “ iPhone 4 is the most innovative phone in the world, featuring Apple's stunning Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone and FaceTime, which makes video calling a reality”.

The announcement comes almost a year after the US launch of iPhone 4 and within months of an expected iPhone5 announcement.

No prices were mentioned – or exact dates of availability. But going by global prices the iPhone 4 which boasts a touch interface, HD video and all the functionality of the iPod, should cost between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000 depending on the size of the memory. .. making it arguably the priciest smart phone on offer in this country.
