Carry an entire library in your pocket: Kingston's 256 GB USB flash drive is here

World’s first 256GB USB flash drive is here

California-based independent memory leader Kingston Technology has announced the launch of the world’s first 256GB USB flash drive. The Kingston DataTraveler 300, soon available in India, boasts data transfer rates of 20 MBPS read and 10 MBPS write.

Seemingly aimed at Netbook users who want to extend the limited capacity of their machines; it can also be used by business consumers who work with large databases, or professionals who need to transfer large design files from one place to another. It can carry approximately 51,000 images in jpeg format captured at 10 Megapixels. It comes with a password protector and a ReadyBoost feature for Windows Vista. Now that Windows 7 has come, one would have expected Kingston to build in this feature for the new iteration of Windows.

The Kingston DataTraveler 300 is backed by a five-year warranty and  the India mrp is Rs 42,999,  about the same as the US dollar price of  900 plus.  Might seem like a lot of money when you compare it to external hard drives – but that’s the price you have to pay to squeeze 256 GB into a thumb sized device!   www.kingston.com/india .

"It's innovative technology, I would admit. And a very good alternative for net book users who want an extended memory. Even good for laptop users who still prefer the flexibility of carrying data in ultra slim compartments like flash drives rather than on extrav HDD canisters and containers that are bulky. At the con is that it's way too expensive for the size. It's approximately =N=144,000 Nigerian naira. That amount could still get you an hp DV 4 a DV 6000 hp laptop."
