New Delhi, September 22, 2014: Arguably one of the most affordable Android * handsets becomes available in India this week:
Jivi Mobiles is launching sales of the 3.5” Jivi JSP 20, for Rs 1999 -- that is less than $ 33. It is being sold at the Amazon.in site and those who book in advance will have their phones shipped on September 25, with a free flip cover worth Rs 499.
Says Pankaj Anand, CEO, Jivi Mobiles: “The Prime Minister’s Digital India programme envisages citizens accessing e-services on highly affordable mobile devices. We are supporting his vision of a smartphone in every Indian’s hand by 2019 by shattering the price barrier. However, a sub US$ 33 Android smartphone does not mean any compromise on functionality whatsoever. This is just a beginning. We intend to introduce lowest-priced 3G, dual-core, quad-core and octa-core phones as well in the days to come. In accordance with Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Made in India’, we are considering setting up a manufacturing facility as well in future. The economics are being worked out. The intention is to reduce the electronics import bill of the country in whatever little way we possibly can.”
“It is the only phone in its segment to have an OGS (One Glass Solution) display wherein one of the glass layers in the capacitive touchscreen stack gets replaced by thin insulating material, Indium Tin Oxide, a rare metal, reducing its thickness. it’s not just light on pocket but in weight as well- measuring just 95 grams,” adds Anand.
Besides the 3.5” (8.89 cm) full capacitive touchscreen it has a 1GHz processor and come with WhatsApp, Facebook & YouTube. and supports six languages for messaging – English, French, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.The Jivi JSP 2o takes two SIM cards. One can access Internet through WiFi and enjoy the contactless freedom suited to your digital lifestyle. It also supports 2G, EDGE & GPRS and files can be exchanged through Bluetooth connectivity. It has a 2.0 MP camera with LED flash and an LED torch.
