Improved search and better appearance, go with a Twitter emoji add-on
Bangalore July 24 2017: Yahoo is not dead! Last week, the flagship of the Yahoo portfolio -- YahooMail -- for long the most used desktop email client in India, showcased improvements in both style and function which seemed to say: don't write us off, we're here for the long haul!
Now what's new?
You can personalize your inbox by choosing from new colour themes. Each theme also comes with three different layout options. When you find the colour you like, you can also set the interface to a light or dark mode.
There is more spacing between important items; the nbox feels less cluttered.
A new addition is the option of using the emoji set from Twitter and new stationery to make your emails more stylish.
All this is on the visual or design side. What about functionality?
New Photos and Documents Views allow you to conveniently see all the attachments you’ve ever sent or received. When you want to look at a specific document, you can use a new side-by-side preview which allows you to view attachments and the email together.
Yahoo also says its interfaces are now faster even with slow connections. The mail clients also senses the size of your screen and scales accordingly. You can hover over the image icon to view the photos, documents, etc., attached in an email.
You can also customize your inbox more easily than before.
Some of these feel like incremental, rather than radical changes -- but I guess the idea is to assure us, Yahoo is very much in the business of email services.
