February 25 2017: Brian Acton, Co-Founder, WhatsApp along with Neeraj Arora, Head of Business, WhatsApp, visited IIT Delhi  yesterday to interact and learn from students. The discussion focused on ways WhatsApp can contribute to India as it is invested in building a service with high utility for millions of Indians. WhatsApp announced that it has 200 million monthly active users in India.

WhatsApp Status is now available for all users across the globe. Starting today, iPhone, Android and Windows users can send photos, videos and GIFs through Status to share special moments throughout their day with friends and family. We also wanted to share this how-to video, as well as three tips for using the new feature:

  • Control who can see your Status update: In WhatsApp’s privacy settings, you have the option to choose the people who will receive your update. You can select from the following three options: “my contacts,” “contacts except...” and “only share with...”
  • See who has viewed your Status update: Tap the eye icon at the bottom of any Status update to view a list of contacts who have seen your update.
  • Reply to an updateWhen you view someone’s Status update, there is a reply button, so you can comment on any photo, video, or GIF. Once you tap reply, your message will be sent in a WhatsApp chat with a thumbnail of the Status update.
