Bangalore, July 22 2014: Indian mobile  application creators totally dominate the travel section in the Android  apps listings at Google play.
What's more all these apps are free. "Indian Rail Train and IRCTC Info" from Cool Apps is currently the most popular app world wide.

Nine of the top ten free apps and four of the top five  apps are Indian contributions.  They include apps like Askme.com, a city wise directory from the people who provide GetIt yellow pages  no2);  M- Indicator, a mobile guide to Mumbai from MoBond ( no 3) and the online travel booking sites MakyMyTrip ( no.5) and GoIbibo ( no 6).
Ixigo's Indian rail site is no  7 while the original  Indian Railways site, IRCTC, is no. 8.The top ten is rounded off by  RedBus.in, the bus boking site ans Zomato's restaurant finder
The situation is similar on Apple's AppStore for iPhone and iPad apps -- but  the precise rankings are nort clear since the site does not rank them like Google Play.
While many  global  apps   can be found in the Android and  iOS app stores,  they tend to be paid apps -- unlike Indian offerings who give it away for free.
Because of interest in tracking civilian aircraft flight paths after the MH17 crash in Ukraine,  Flightradar24Pro has zoomed to number one spot in the paid travel apps ( Rs 170).
