The only global player in the electronic design automation solutions space, which can boast of Indian roots -- Magma Design Automation -- has subtly shifted its thrust from point products to end-to-end solutions across three broad categories: System-on-Chip (SoC); Analog/Mixed-Signal (AMS) and memory devices.

Dubbing them “Silicon One” technology solutions for emerging silicon, Magma has been able to attract key players among the Top 25 semiconductor companies as early adapters, said, Chairman and CEO, Rajeev Madhavan in a media briefing in Bangalore on Aug 7, on the sidelines of the annual user conference MUSIC (Magma Users Summit on Integrated Circuits).
He pointed at a trend towards vertical integration where electronics companies such as Apple and Google aggregate software, silicon and services to gain tighter control over the quality of the electronic products and ultimately, the customer experience. Greater vertical integration in electronics manufacturing requires greater silicon integration of complex analog and digital technology. Through Silicon One, Magma supports this trend by providing advanced digital design, digital sign-off, analog design, analog verification and yield management capabilities that address the time-to-market, product differentiation, cost, power and performance requirements of semiconductors, Madhavan added.

A recent acquisition had also enabled Magma to address the industry need for semiconductor manufacturing yield management and analytics. In February this year, manufacturing equipment, services leader, Applied Materials and Magma announced that they had integrated Magma's CAD (computer-aided design)-based navigation and yield analysis software with Applied's advanced inspection systems to help accelerate lithography qualification and improved chip yields at foundries.
