QlikTech's flagship BI software, now on iPhone, has key customers in India
The world's fastest growing business intelligence software vendor asks "'Recession? what recession"? Honoured by analyst Frost and Sullivan with the 2009 Global Emerging Company award, the Sweden-founded, Radnor, PA (US)-headquartered QlikTech, has seen dramatic revenue increases of 50 percent in 2008, over 2007 to $ 120 million -- bucking the general doom and gloom trend across the tech and services industry.
IT's not the worst of times, but the best, for its flagship product QlikView, a visual and graphics-enabled front-end tool for analysis and reporting, says Matts Gulberg, QlikTech's Director of OEM and Technology partners. He was on a visit to India, when IndiaTechOnline caught up with him a few days ago.
Touting the mantra, that software should 'work the way your mind works', QlikTech has positioned and marketed QlikView in a way that small and medium sized companies can afford. Using patented ' associative technology' the product can usually be up and working within hours -- and a variety of licensing options are on offer. It works with all the well known data base and ERP tools -- and allows end users to drive the application in a way that works best for them -- visually.
The new -- version 9 -- of QlikView will be available from early June but interested professional users can download a trial version at http://community.qlikview.com/content/qv9beta.aspx after they register as members of the Qlik community.
In another recent development, the tool has been tweaked to create a special edition that runs on the iPhone -- the first ever interactive business intelligence solution scaled for mobile smart phones. Taking advantage of the GPS capability and 3-D features of the phone, users can create graphically powerful location-sensitive reports in a way possibly not anticipated by the Oracles, SAPs and IBMs whose basic application QlikView builds upon.
India presence
QlikTech has an India presence from July 2008 and its roster of India-based users includes Birla Sunlife, HDFC, Honda Motors, LG Electronics and Blue Chip Solutions. It has been used by solution providers like C Square to create applications for the pharmaceutical industry that is scalable from a large manufacturer to the smallest chemist shop, says R. Raghunathan, QlikTech's Bangalore-based Regional Manager for India and South Asia.
