Nokia 'frees' email, messaging on Series 60 phones

In what is seemingly a shot across the bows of handsets that come bundled with premium-priced browsing and email services, Nokia has created free-to-download mail and messaging solutions across its entire Series 60 phone range.
For lay users this means free email functions, from almost every known brand of web based mail client used in India including Gmail, Yahoo, Rediffmail, Sify and Indiatimes. Configuring the multiple mail accounts ( up to 10) has been simplified to a few clicks and one need not remember a lot of detail about POP mail incoming and outgoing mail servers
For business users this means the ability to access Microsoft Mail for Exchange and Lotus Traveler without having to pay extra. The Nokia application also supports Virtual Private Network security features and push mail. Such users can also mix-n-match personal and corporate mail accounts.
The tool can be downloaded from www.email.nokia.com

If you don’t have an existing email account you can sign up for Nokia’s Ovi Mail. . India is already among the top 5 countries for Nokia messaging and Ovi Mail

Typical phone for the email and messaging service is the Nokia E63 priced at Rs 10599. The service will soon be extended to the cheaper Series 40 phones which means an entry level of three or four thousand rupees.

Says Viral Oza, Head, Activation, Media & Online Marketing “Nokia believes email has become a standard part of the mobile experience, not a unique class of solution for a select part of the market. We are committed to serving the mobile email needs of the entire market with a complete portfolio of solutions across the full range of our devices and this move underlines that commitment.”

“Fresh graduates, in particular, undergo a huge transition at this point in life where they want to “gear up” to fast track into the corporate world, while staying connected with their old days and friends. We believe the Nokia E63 and Nokia Messaging solutions are the best companions of today’s young professionals. It accommodates multiple work and personal email accounts, letting users easily toggle from one email account to another, thus enabling them to be flexible and choose how, when, where and who to respond to and stay on top of both their personal and professional lives.”
