April 12, '09; BANGALORE: The embedded hard ware and software design house iWave Systems Technologies, has announced the availability of what is arguably the tiniest global positioning system (GPS) receiver module to be wholly designed and developed in India. The module weighs less than 25 grams and is just 27 mm by 25mm in size. Without the connector, it is only 7 mm in thickness.
Based on the SiRF StarIII chipset, the module uses an ARM7TDMI processor and promises a navigational accuracy of less than 10 meters.
Operating on 3.3 volts and consuming less than 112 milliwatts of power the iWave GPS solution is tailored for fuelling satellite-based location sensitive services on handheld devices including mobile phones, PDAs, pocket phones and the new generation of ultra compact mobile PCs.
It can be incorporated into internet and PC devices like iWave's own Rainbow G-6 ultra mobile computer (see separate story), that was also unveiled this week.
IP videophone
iWave has also launched in recent days, an Internet Protocol-based video phone solution that supports a touch screen, VGA video at 30 frames per second and switchability between land and IP lines. The design allows OEMs to build in email, browsing and media player functions into the video phone.
