Indian-American  Satish Tripathi to head New York's  largest public university at Buffalo

Internationally recognized computer scientist, Satish Tripathi, is to be the next President of the University of at Buffalo, the largest public university in the state of New York. He will be UB’s 15th president — the first born outside the United States. He is also the first Indian American to head an AAU Research University. (AAU: American Association of Universities is the group of top sixty three research universities in North America).
Dr Tripathi has been UB’s Provost– the university's chief academic officer – since July 1, 2004, after serving as dean of the Bourns College of Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. He was born in the village Patna (District Faizabad – now Ambedkar Nagar- UP) and graduated from Banaras Hindu at the top of his class in 1968.
Says Nancy L. Zimpher, Chancellor of the State University of New York ( UB is part of the NY State University system) , who recommended Tripathi for the post of President at Buffalo: “Dr. Tripathi’s international reputation as an accomplished researcher and transformative leader in higher education makes him ideally suited for this post. Public research universities like UB provide access to high quality, affordable education and engage in research that helps build vibrant communities at home and across the globe. Dr. Tripathi will provide outstanding leadership for UB as it carries out this important mission.”
UB's more than 28,000 students pursue their academic interests through more than 300 undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programs. Founded in 1846, the University at Buffalo is a member of the Association of American Universities.  April 6 2011
