Providing video software for Chinese phones...

Bangalore-headquartered Indian telecom Value added services player OnbMobile has signed up several major handset, chipset and platform vendors in China for its proprietary Video Calling software stack, OnMobile Dilithium, the company announced in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress this week.
The licensees will embed the OnMobile video calling software in a range of handsets and chipsets. A dominant operator in China has also licensed the video calling stack for Android. This is a crucial deal for OnMobile since it is an upfront one involving a royalty stream on handset shipments. To support the ongoing demand in the region and OnMobile’s expanding Video Product Unit, the company has also opened a new office in China. “China is the largest mobile market in the world and is experiencing phenomenal growth as consumers increasingly demand richer forms of wireless communications,” said Dr. Marwan Jabri, Vice President of the Video Products Unit at OnMobile. “The OnMobile Video Calling Stack is the leading stack in WCDMA and TD-SCDMA. We are pleased by the licensing revenues that are flowing in and hope to achieve higher market penetration in the months to come.”
The OnMobile Dilithium Video Calling Stack is among the most established video stacks in the market. The first shipment of the stack started in 1999, and can now be found in more 3G handsets brands and models than any other stack. It is fully compatible with 3G-324M, making it a popular choice for deployment as a real-time conversational video and value added services for 3G wireless environments. The video calling stack can be deployed in a range of handsets including Android, Linux, ThreadX and Windows Mobile.

The representatives at OnMobile’s China office will support OnMobile’s handset software Research & Development team, the sales and technical support team for video products deployed in China, as well as provide support for Chinese OEMs. There is also a fully functional lab that has been established to support R&D activities.

Started in 2000, OnMobile is the first Indian telecom VAS Company to go public. It offers an array of products in Mobile Entertainment, Search and Discovery, Data Services and Mobile Social Networking It is headquartered in Bangalore, where it has a large R&D centre and network operations centre. With over 1200 employees worldwide, OnMobile has offices around the globe, including London, Paris, Silicon Valley, Miami and Seattle.
