NASSCOM honours global IT leaders

The National Association of Software & Services (NASSCOM) has announced the winners of its 7th Annual Global Leadership Awards..
The winners were honored at an awards ceremony chaired by Anand Sharma, Minister for Commerce and Industry, Government of India, on the sidelines of the ongoing NASSCOM India Leadership Forum 2011.

The Global Business Leader Award was given to Louis Chenevert, CEO & Chairman, UTC, for his endeavour towards setting UTC on a path of innovation, customer responsiveness and corporate governance and enabled it to achieve rapid growth and profitability.

Reigning World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand was awarded with the Global Strategist Award for mastering many formats of World Chess Championships including Knockout, Tournament, Match, Rapid and Blitz, which has aided him in being one of the greatest strategists and tacticians today. On winning the honour, Anand said, “I feel extremely proud to receive the Global Strategist Award for 2010-2011. I find it a rare honour for a sportsperson to be feted by the captains of the IT industry and thereby join the illustrious ranks of the previous recipients. In my travels, I have always noted that the emergence of India, the IT industry and my own career have grown almost parallel. As the ambassador of a sport where the mind is king, I truly appreciate the recognition from an industry where knowledge is capital."

The Award for the Global Indian was conferred upon Prof. Raghuram G. Rajan, Eric J. Gleacher Distinguished Service Professor of Finance, University of Chicago, for his outstanding work in the academic or business communities and proved himself as a visionary and thought leader. He expressed his feelings by saying, “I am honored to receive this award from an organization which represents the finest aspects of the Indian Industry.”

The Global Innovator Award has been awarded to Shantanu Narayen, President and CEO, Adobe Systems Incorporated for breaking conventional processes going beyond marginal improvements in existing products and services and has managed to distinguish itself in a competitive market through deep and enduring innovation. On winning the award, Narayen said, “I am honored to receive this award from NASSCOM, and it is an incredible testament to the work done by more than 9,000 Adobe employees around the world. We are proud of our history and the impact we’ve made on the technology industry. But we’re even more excited about the future innovations we will deliver for digital experiences across every screen. It’s an exciting time, not only for India but for the IT industry globally.”


The awards are an endeavour to recognize the work and achievements of thought leaders, who have contributed significantly towards building business excellence and thought leadership, by the use of vision, creativity, business acumen and technology, and have helped transform the world economy while adding extensively to India’s growth and development .
