Wikimedia  sets up a chapter in India

Wikimedia Foundation the organization behind the free Web-based collaborative knowledge project, Wikipedia, is all set start a chapter in India to help grow its encyclopaedic outreaches in the region. The Chapter being registered as a non-profit society will be headquartered in Bangalore and the President designate is Arun Ramaraham, who in his other avatar is the Vice President for External Communications with the Programme Management Institute’s Bangalore, India chapter.
Barry Newstead, Wimedia Foundation’s Chief Global Development Officer, currently in India, said the India-based volunteer force of the foundation has been evangelising Wikipedia in many Indian languages – there are versions in 20 local languages . Having a small office in India, would help reach out even more and grow usage of Wikipedia beyond the English language centred metros, Arun added.
