First Indian people-finder claims data base of 450 million

A Hyderabad-based start up has created a web resource that is being touted as India’s first and largest people search portal. By integrating the publicly available online records of nearly 450 million Indians, JantaKhoj.com also stakes a claim to being the world’s largest and most comprehensive people search portal for Indians . The search engine trawls all publicly available details about a person’s age, gender, address, contact details, pictures, videos, court records, relatives, neighbours, social networking profiles together with blogs, web links, news and book results featuring the person’s name

Tarun Bangari, Founder & CEO, JantaKhoj InfoServices, an /MBA from IIM Calcutta and B.Tech from IIT-BHU, says “We have utilised every conceivable public source including directories, Google, Bing, Facebook, Fropper, MySpace, ibibo, BigA dda, Friendster, Picasa, Flickr, Youtube among others.”

Ajit Gupta, Founder & Chairman, MS in Electrical Engineering from University of Alabama and BE in Electrical Engineering from IIT Roorkee, adds: “This development brings India at par with international people search engines and is a big step towards compilation and organisation of records from the country that has the second largest population in the world.”
JantaKhoj.com also offers the option of verifying more details through its nominally priced ‘Background check and verification’ service which can authenticate an individual’s education, employment and criminal records among others. It facilitates informed decision making on the part of its consumers by offering comprehensive background verification of matrimonial candidates and employees alongside hitherto ignored but crucial segments like drivers, domestic help, and tenants.

Launched in April 2010 JantaKhoj.com numbers organizations like AAyuja, Aryaka, ByteRidge, EduMetry, Evolv, InvestmentYogi, Rithwik Projects, PocketMoneyJobs, Wings Aviation among its business customers.

The peoplefinder seems to trawl the  most popular  public records like Facebook, LinkedIn etc. But   finding a particular person   is still challenged  by multiple people with the same name.  Contact details don' seem to be available in  the free service.
