One in 10 LinkedIn users now in India

July 20 2018: The  world's leading social network for professionals LinkedIn , a Microsoft company, has   gained 50-million users mark in India.  The membership has grown  from 3.4 million in November 2009 to 50 million now.  The India member base has doubled in the past four years.
India is LinkedIn's largest market outside the US. Globally, the professional networking platform has over 500 million members.
The India-based developments at LinkedIn  included  the lightweight mobile website in September 2016, followed by the launch of ‘LinkedIn Lite’ Android app in July 2017. Developed by LinkedIn’s R&D centre in Bangalore, ‘Lite’ had witnessed unprecedented global success.
One of the company’s strategies in India has also been to focus on extending its platform to the blue collar workforce. LinkedIn has partnered with IL&FS Skills Development Corp. to give students of some skilling streams a two-hour course on building and using a  Linked In profile.
Says  Akshay Kothari, Country Manager, India: “Our members-first, localised approach has helped us cross the 50 million mark in India. We are at the beginning of an exciting journey, as we democratise opportunity for every member of the Indian workforce."
