Bangalore, October 27, 2017: MIPI Alliance (MIPI) a global  collaborative organization which  develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, held its developer conference  – MIPI DevCon 2017 -- here  today. It was  inaugurated by Peter Lefkin, Managing Director, MIPI Alliance in the presence of Gaurav Gupta, Principal Secretary, Government of Karnataka.
The one-day event provided education, technical training and a networking forum for implementers of MIPI specifications. It was attended by system architects, engineers and engineering managers and witnessed the participation of over 200 attendees.
Said Gaurav Gupta: “It is fitting that MIPI has chosen Bengaluru for their first ever conference in India. Bangalore is the recognized capital of Innovation, thanks to its robust network of leading IT and Electronics companies, research institutions as well as its vibrant startup culture. It is the fourth largest technology cluster in the world and the fifth most preferred destination in the world for the launching of global innovation centers. Close to 70% of India’s chip designers are from Karnataka and the state’s share has been growing at close to 20% CAGR over the last few years. We envision that the state’s output will grow tenfold over the next few years to touch USD 40 billion by 2025.”
He added: “We are planning on multiple initiatives such as accelerating adoption of new products and solutions through pilot projects in various cities of the state. The State Government is also concentrating on encouraging grassroot entrepreneurship by supporting them with incubation and acceleration programs. We are also planning to strengthen the semi-conductor venture fund launched in 2014-15 and has disbursed close to 21 crores to various startups. Going forward, the State Government is realigning its focus on high-tech areas like Electronics Hardware, Aerospace, Robotics, 3D printing, Medical devices, Machine Learning and more, and is in the process of setting up Technology Business Incubators and Centres of Excellence (CoE) across the state.”
Peter Lefkin, Managing Director, MIPI Alliance said, "MIPI has been in existence for nearly fifteen years and has evolved with the mobile industry and beyond; with MIPI specifications being extended to the automotive industry as well. This is our first MIPI conference in India. There are a large number of developers in India who travel the world to attend our meetings. One of the primary reasons why we chose to bring MIPI DevCon 2017 to India is the fact that India is a big technology development and testing environment. So, bringing awareness among the developer community in hardware and also software was one motivator. MIPI serves as a platform for its members to see where the market is going in terms of technology mainly because MIPI specifications are global in nature. The intangible benefit is the engagement, networking and business relationships that MIPI conferences provide.”
The five tracks that were covered during the conference included MIPI Sensor and Sideband Interfaces – MIPI I3C and MIPI VGI for Sideband GPIO, MIPI Verification and Test – Challenges and Solutions, MIPI Interfaces for Automotive – Implementation Strategies and Use Cases, MIPI Interfaces for Imaging – Applications and Use Cases and MIPI Connectivity – Approaches and Implementations.
These track sessions highlighted how developers can apply MIPI specifications to achieve significant performance and integration advantages while shortening time to market and lowering component costs. In addition, the exhibit area offered opportunities for delegates to interact with MIPI member companies and view product demonstrations. Exhibiting companies included BitfiEye Digital Test Solutions GmbH; Cadence Design Systems; Introspect Test Technology, Inc.; Keysight Technologies, Inc.; Lattice Semiconductor Corp.; L&T Technology Services; Mentor Graphics; Mixel, Inc.; Prodigy Technovations Pvt. Ltd.; Synopsys; Tektronix, Inc.; and Teledyne LeCroy.
