Bangalore, October 13, 2015: China headquartered technology startup OnePlus,  has announced its plans for local production of its smartphones in India through contract manufacturing at Foxconn’s Rising Stars factory within the Sri City Integrated Business City in the state of Andhra Pradesh by end of 2015.
This collaboration was formally announced by Pete Lau, Founder & CEO, OnePlus and Vikas Agarwal, General Manager – India, OnePlus along with a special video message from Dr. Palle Raghunatha Reddy, Andhra Pradesh Minister of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications
Said Pete Lau, Founder & CEO, OnePlus:“Producing smartphones in India is one of the most important decisions that we have made so far at OnePlus, and we are thankful to the Government of Andhra Pradesh and Foxconn for helping us make this happen. India being one of our biggest markets worldwide, we are committed to a long term sustainable growth path. This move will strengthen our presence and help us step up momentum in India.”
Chandrababu Naidu, Chief Minister, Andhra Pradesh, said: “We are pleased to welcome one of the fastest growing smartphone companies in the global market - OnePlus - to make in India. Our dream is to catapult Andhra Pradesh to become one of the hottest destinations for local manufacturing in India, and I believe with brands such as OnePlus joining in, that dream is quickly becoming a reality. The Andhra Pradesh Government assures all cooperation and support to OnePlus to help them cater to the growing demands in the India market.”
Vikas Agarwal, General Manager – India, OnePlus added “Ever since OnePlus debuted in India, we have been deluged with more than 5 million registrations worldwide for our latest release - the OnePlus 2 - alone! The local production will help to address this issue and better cater to the fast growing demands for OnePlus products in India.”
Local production of OnePlus’ upcoming devices will start before end of this year at the 30,000 sq. ft. facility at Foxconn’s Rising Stars factory within the Sri City Integrated Business City in Andhra Pradesh. The facility will have a cumulative peak capacity of producing up to 500,000 units per month, thus scalable to locally fulfil the demand for OnePlus’ smartphones in India in the future. The facility will also generate direct employment of over 1000 full time workers, thereby giving further support to the Government’s Make in India initiative.
