Bangalore, Feb 10, 2015- The focus was on agriculture and healthcare at the 15th edition of the India’s premier biotech event Bangalore INDIA BIO 2015.
The UK was once more the key international presence in the event. Interestingly individual US states like Illinois (represented by Global Pharma Device Solutions ( GPDS) participated to highlight their environments for biotech business.
Among other state participants, Uttar Pradesh showcased its BioTechnology City in Lucknow.
The event was inaugurated in the city yesterday by Karnataka state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who reminded the audience that 52% of all biotech firms including the top ten in India are situated in Bangalore. Two central ministers were present:
Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of State, Environment, Forest and Climate Change, lauded the coopetition among key players in the industry which ensured an accelerated growth for the sector. Piyush Goyal, Minister of State for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy, said the mantra of ‘Speak-Skill-Scale’ should be replicated in the industry.
Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson of the Karnataka Vision Group on Biotechnology and Chairman and Managing Director, Biocon , said the industry needs to focus on innovation to accelerate growth.
The panel on Going Beyond Start-Ups with Effective Scaling Strategies panel representatives from Theramyt Novobiologics, Achira Labs, GridOctane, Perfint Healthcare Pvt Ltd, Navya Biotechnology and Green Power system, put forth their demand to the Government which included:
- Procurement sources to accommodate start-up companions
- Government considering investment in them
- Create platform to identify and nurture start-ups
Bangalore INDIA BIO is an annual event organized since2001, by the department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka in association with the state's Vision Group of Biotechnology.
