New Delhi, December 16, 2014: Thin continues to be in - and the thinnest phone has just entered India, courtesy Chinese maker vivo.
On Monday, the company formally launched its operations in this country, with a Bollywood style razzmatazz at Gurgaon's Kingdom of Dreams -- and the unveiling of an initial slate of 5 handsets ranging in price from around Rs 7000 to Rs 33,000.
Top of the line is the X 5 Max, claiming the title of world's thinnest phone at just 4.75 mm. The 5.5 inch full HD display phone also offers vivo's own Hi-Fi 2.0 technology for superior audio and a proprietary FunTouch 2.0 OS that sits atop Android 4.4.
vivo is working with its dealer partners across 20 states in India to set-up after sales facilities to provide world class support ahead of the availability of the phones through "bric" channel ( no online, for starters), explained Jacky Liao,CEO, vivo Mobile India.
Shen Wei, Global CEO, vivo Mobile Communication, explained the company's singular focus on "Benfen" a Chinese word that is not easily translatable, but which generally means 'trying to do things right'. vivo is in no hurry to claim market share though it has managed to sell 30 million in China alone this year, he added. Since 2008, the company has spread its operations to 100 countries and is now entering India in a big way.
To reach out to this young Indian customer, vivo has formed a strategic marketing and communication partnership with one of India’s biggest entertainment networks Viacom18 through its Integrated Network Solutions (INS) division to market its products in India.
Said Sudhanshu Vats, Group CEO, Viacom18 Media: "What we are offering is an end to end brand service which is the first of its kind in India. This is the beginning of a new kind of brand marketing and we are delighted to be the ones pioneering it."
