Leveraging Bangalore's strengths...

Bangalore,  August 20, 2014: Taiwan-based global fabless semiconductor company,  MediaTek Inc.,   has set up new  Research & Development (R&D) facility  in Bangalore -- its second in India--  to develop innovative solutions for wireless communications and establish MediaTek’s presence in other core segments like connectivity & home entertainment devices.
This is part of the company's $ 200 million plans for the Indian market over the next few years.
Says Grant Kuo, Managing Director, MediaTek India: “MediaTek Bangalore R&D centre would cater to the growing needs of millions of consumers in emerging Super-mid market, especially in the South-East Asian region. MediaTek is one of the few companies that provide a whole spectrum of technologies, and with the launch of Bangalore  centre, we are looking to expand into our other set of businesses in India, besides mobile communications.”
Adds Akshay Aggarwal, General Manager, MediaTek Bangalore: “We are delighted to be a part of the growing technology ecosystem in Bangalore. By year-end, we plan to build a workforce of over 100 professionals with strong expertise in the IC design industry, and over the next few years, we look to grow to over 500 in number. The Bengalore center for excellence will develop exciting new products and applications, enabling India to harness growth opportunities in emerging technologies like LTE and Internet of Things.”
The facility is spread across approximately 7000 sq m along the Outer Ring Road.
MediaTek currently has a R&D facility situated in NOIDA (NCR Region).
