Trimble brings Building Information Modeling solutions to India

Bangalore,  October 5,  2013 - Trimble Buildings, a part  of the Engineering Construction segment of US-based Trimble Navigation, has brought a  slate of  innovative   lifecycle solutions for the Indian construction industry.

The technologies  which were launched   on October 3 by Sachin Ahir,  Indian Minister of State for Housing, Mining & Industry, enable industry professionals such as Architects, Structural Engineers, MEP Trades, General Contractors, and Building Owners to do their jobs better, while achieving greater accuracy, efficiency, and cost management.  These technologies, including Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools, are focused on optimizing collaboration so that managing the moving parts of complex building programs becomes easier and smarter. The new technologies also  include a portfolio of synergistic software and hardware helping companies to digitize workflows and minimize rework across the Design-Build-Operate lifecycle.

Says Bryn Fosburgh, Vice President, Trimble Buildings: “India has a demonstrable commitment to advancing and expanding the infrastructure and buildings that serve the public. We see an excellent opportunity to help India’s construction companies and AEC professionals in this endeavor by bringing our state-of-the-art tools and technologies to the Indian market at this important time”.

Adds Risto Räty, EVP, Deputy CEO Tekla, General Manager, Trimble Buildings Structures Division: “In the US, for example, using BIM is almost mandatory for the construction industry, which shows that the value of BIM helping the whole workflow has been better recognized. In India we aren’t quite there yet. Currently, many of the projects are still 2D based. At the same time complexity of construction industry is growing. The need for tools enabling open collaboration and serving a common goal is obvious.”

The portfolio of technologies include:

3D Modeling:   Building professionals around the world turn to SketchUp Pro for concepting, visualization, communication, and planning. SketchUp Pro is powerful because it is intuitive and simple, allowing architects to quickly evolve design ideas and document modeling work in both 3D and 2D formats.

BIM:  Tekla Structures is Building Information Modeling (BIM) software that enables the creation and management of accurately detailed, highly constructable 3D structural models regardless of material or structural complexity. The models can cover the entire building process from conceptual design to fabrication, erection and construction management. Tekla BIMsight is a professional tool for construction project collaboration. With Tekla BIMsight, the entire construction workflow can combine models, check for clashes and share information using the same easy-to-use 3D environment and solve issues already in the design phase. Tekla BIMsight is  free to download.

Virtual Construction:  Vico Office delivers a different way of working with building information models.  Used for much more than visualization, Vico Office extends the basic 3D model with constructability analysis and coordination, quantity takeoff, 4D location-based scheduling and production control, and 5D estimating.

Estimating: Trimble Accubid Enterprise Estimating is a robust estimating solution for electrical contractors that uses logical business rules to centralizing the data across the life cycle of a project. By using a project workflow approach, contractors can work within core aspects of a project whether in the estimating or change management phase. WinEst provides a database-driven estimating solution that uses a highly flexible spreadsheet for creating, adjusting and presenting cost estimates.

Project Management and Workflow: Trimble ConstructJob, a web-based project management software system, allows MEP contractors to create, manage, track, and share project documentation more efficiently, and communicate and collaborate with industry partners more effectively.  Prolog provides cost control, streamlining the project information workflow and providing access to information from anywhere. Prolog Mobile enables all project participants to capture and retrieve project information on mobile devices that are affordable and available to everyone.

Field & Mobility Solutions  include applications and hardware for site grading, layout, and laser scanning.  The equipment and tools capture data from the field and deliver it to the office for productivity, progress, and quality assurance.
