Kerala harnesses YouTube and Web to take the trauma out of school-leaving exams

Thiruvananthapuram, February 20 2012: The southern Indian state of Kerala – always a leader in harnessing information technology in education systems --has leveraged the reach of  the Web and YouTube to make the school leaving examinations this year, a less traumatic experience for over 450,00 students in the state. The IT@School programme has created a dedicated web site -- www.resource.itschool.gov.in  -- packed with the content of Science, Social Science and Mathematics papers at Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination, with interactive animation videos and graphics . It allows students to download the required contents and use them offline, explains s K Anvar Sadath, Executive Director, IT@School Project.
The Project has also established a dedicated YouTube channel --   www.youtube.com/itsvicters    -- which carries entire episodes of SSLC Orukkam 2012- the exam preparatory programme for Class X students, being aired on the satellite-backed IT@School ViCTERS educational channel. SSLC Orukkam is being It includes sessions on how the students could prepare for the exam, easier methods or short-cuts for each subjects, specific points to be remembered, review of yesteryear’s question papers and probable questions for this year etc. SSLC Orukkam is currently aired in ViCTERS channel every day morning at 6.30 AM & 11.30 AM, at noon at 1.30 PM and in evenings at 5.30 PM and 8 PM. Students could also view Live Telecast of SSLC Orukkam in ViCTERS channel through internet also via www.victers.itschool.gov.in  .
