April 7; 2009; BANGALORE: : IT Services provider HCL Technologies, has clinched a series of big deals in recent days that bucks the recessionary trend and underlines once more, the compelling attraction that India-based operations hold out to the global outsourcers.
On Monday, The Economic Times reported that HCL had clinched a five year IT enabled online services contract with Microsoft worth some $ 170 million. The company has not yet formally announced this deal though Reuters says it confirmed it.
Only days earlier HCL Tech signed a 6-year multi regional data centre services contract with Xerox Corporation, which analysts estimate to be worth $ 100 million.
On March 16, HCL contracted to provide wide ranging solutions and services to the Readers Digest Association that include its media publishing and entertainment operations in 45 countries and 14 languages. The 7-year deal was worth more than $ 350 million.
In January HCL signed on Nokia for a 5-year global helpdesk and desktop management outsourcing agreement that spanned 76 countries and 13 languages.
Nasscom President Som Mittal said on the occasion of the biggest of these deals: "The Indian IT-BPO industry is increasingly focused on expanding into less penetrated verticals through innovative business models. This deal reinforces the fact how global sourcing helps economies to take advantage of talent, new opportunities which will help revive the current economic situation” .
