A recent survey conducted by Singapore-based B2B event specialist Terrapinn, with e-commerce leaders in India and the rest of Asia produced some interesting insights into the nascent e-commerce space in this part of the world with security and internet access heading the list of concerns
A vast majority of respondents are most interested in business strategy and innovative technology that will enable their e-commerce business.
The Top opportunities in the e-commerce space in India are said to be:
• Risks associated with e-buying
• Protection against fraud
• Technological infrastructure
• Business set-up in India
• Security & encryption
• Education of consumers
• Payment gateways
Overall, e-commerce looks set to boom in India, with security remaining the greatest concern for consumers and business owners alike. With that as the primary stumbling block, and the internet penetration rate yet to reach its peak in India, there certainly are abundant opportunities for growth in the space. The industry’s focus seems to be on technology, infrastructure and business strategy and there appears a vast opportunity to get ahead of the pack and be a leader or early adopter in the space.
The report concludes that with the enormous growth potential recognised in India, there is a clear need to nurture and develop leaders to cope with the expected growth. It is apparent that there is a need for a cross-industry learning platform to bring together knowledge, insights and expertise from the entire e-commerce community.
